Hardwood Never goes Out of Style

hardwood flooring Jacksonville, FL I have been in some very beautiful and historic buildings in the United States. I lived in New York State for around 25 years and visited some of the most iconic buildings in the country. I lived near Kinderhook, NY where the Legend of Sleepy Hollow took place, and have been in the Old North Church and the Schoolhouse where Ichabod Crane, was a teacher. I have been to President Martin Van Buren’s home in Kinderhook, NY as well. In Philadelphia, I have seen the place where the Declaration of Independence was signed and the Liberty Bell was rung. I have also been to Ben Franklin’s residence, and all of these places have one major thing in common: Hardwood floors!

Hardwood floors have been a part of American history, and for good reason. Hardwood flooring is beautiful, durable and brings a sense of serene warmth to any place it is installed. Hardwood floors have withstood the test of time and many of these iconic structures still have the floors that were installed when they were built.
Modern hardwood floors are split into two categories, solid hardwood and engineered hardwood.

Solid hardwood is a plank cut from a single piece of wood about ¾ of an inch thick. It derives its durability from the thickness of the cut and the fact that it is one piece. It is then sanded down and given a stain and a finish.

Engineered hardwood floors are a little different. They are made of several overlapping layers of thin wood pressed together with a polymer resin, similar to plywood. Then, a solid wood layer about ¼ of an inch thick is laid over the top of the core to create a wear layer. It is then stained and given a finish as well.
