Luxury vinyl plank flooring from About Floors n More in Jacksonville, FL

Basics of luxury vinyl plank flooring (LVP)

Luxury vinyl plank flooring is an attractive and practical synthetic alternative to hardwood flooring. LVP is not only less expensive, it repels water. Therefore, LVP can be installed in basements, bathrooms, and other water prone areas that are not appropriate for hardwood. Locally owned About Floors n’ More is a luxury vinyl flooring retailer that offers a large selection of top quality LVP as well as other types of flooring. We have two showrooms: one in Jacksonville and one in Mandarin.

LVP facts

High tech 3D printing, capable of deep embossing, is used to create wood grain planks that look very similar to hardwood. LVP has four layers. The backing layer is typically made of EVA foam or cork. This bottom layer and the core layer on top of it form a base for the design layer, which is covered by a wear layer.  Durability is determined by the thickness of the wear layer. High-quality brands often add a coating on top of the wear layer to provide additional protection. Child- and pet-friendly LVP is resistant to scratches, stains, and wear. Typically, you can find brands with a lifetime, 30-year, or 15-year warranty.

Waterproof

While many floor coverings resist water, any LVP that has a wood plastic composite core or a stone plastic composite core is waterproof. The former material includes recycled wood pulp while the latter is made with natural limestone powder. Waterproof LVP can be covered in water for a long period with no change to its structure. Therefore, the floors won't warp or buckle when they are wet. LVP is usually installed with a click and lock system. Planks fit together to create a floor that floats over the subfloor. Conceivably, planks could be removed from a basement to allow clean up after flooding.
