Luxury vinyl plank flooring from About Floors n More in Jacksonville, FL

Is luxury vinyl plank scratch resistant?

Yes, and in fact, luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is so durable and also waterproof that it’s considered to be one of the most pet-friendly floorings.

We can thank that to multiple layers.  Cores are critical to a floor's performance, and this one is made of tough vinyl composites with some resins.  It also has a thick clear melamine wear layer at the top.  This protects the floor from scratches, scuffs, and wear.  It also keeps spills at the top so they don't absorb and wipe off easily.

What is LVP?

This is one of the cut versions of luxury vinyl flooring (LVF), a remarkable mimic of wood, tile, or stone. Thanks to modern technology, which includes digital photography, images are clear and true-to-life, showing every knot, grain, wormhole, and veining/color variation.

Technology also gave us embossing, so there's added depth and dimension.  Textured appearances include wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, and distressed.  It comes in matte, gloss, or high gloss finishes.

Every pattern follows a current trend, so you can get the light floors so popular with farmhouse style, barn door looks, pops of color that is the hallmark of the trending retro style or any atmosphere from traditional to contemporary to cottage beach and more.

LVP is made by cutting vinyl strips and mounting them on boards to mimic hardwood.  Some people, however, also use it for stone looks because of the larger format/fewer seams.

LVF can also be cut into groutable, square, tile sized pieces (LVT).

Other benefits

  • ● Affordability.  It will look like the real thing, but you won’t pay anywhere near that.
  • ● Easy care.  All it takes is a regular sweeping and a periodic mopping with a manufacturer-approved cleaner.  Don’t use waxy, shine-promoting cleaners as they will have the exact opposite effect of what you desire.  If you feel like you need more shine, call your luxury vinyl flooring retailer for advice.
  • ● Fast, uncomplicated installation.  This is a floating floor.  The installation technique starts with clicking the pieces together like a puzzle.  It then hovers over an existing subfloor, with no required staples, nails, or glue.
