The Sunday Notebook in Jacksonville.Com is wanting to clear up the confusion surrounding the East San Marco development project, but the truth is that no one really knows what is going on: www.jacksonville.com by Roger Bull.

We can’t help that one, but About Floors n’ More can clear up any confusion about tile flooring. Here are the facts:

1. Porcelain and ceramic tile are not the same, although the phrases are used interchangeably, and porcelain really is a type of ceramic. Porcelain is made from a finer and denser clay. It is fired at higher temperatures, and it’s a very durable, making it a good choice for those heavily-trafficked areas. While ceramic tile is also strong, it is thinner and slightly less durable, so think about installation in areas with less traffic, like a bathroom, where shoes are normally not warn.
2. You can be creative with tile flooring even with a limited budget. Budget isn’t synonymous with bland! With all the options in color, patterns and cuts, you can mix and match to create your own unique pattern. Be as creative as you want, because you can always start with a more basic one, and then use more highly designed ones as an accessory tile, say around grout lines.
3. Ceramic tile flooring is a cool (weather-wise) choice for hot, humid Florida! Because it’s such a great heat conductor, bare feet always will feel cool. Tile flooring is also resistant to moisture, so humidity won’t bother it.
4. Tile flooring is easy to clean. All you need is warm water, but sweep or vacuum first to remove loose soil or grit. Avoid sponge mops, because they just move dirt around and can pull it into the grout lines; micro-fiber mops are best.
5. You shouldn’t install tile flooring yourself. The pieces are not only heavy, but they require an assortment of mortars, grout and tools, making this a labor-intensive project. Why take the chance of wrecking your investment?
6. Use area rugs in places where kids play, or where you’ll be standing for long periods, like in front of the sink. Tile flooring is a hard surface, so the area rugs will soften it up, reducing hard falls and achy feet.
7. Tile flooring is a best bet for those with allergies. Unlike carpet, where dust mites and other particles can sink between the plush fibers, there’s just no place for them to hide here!
