Water-resistant simply means that it is treated to withstand a little water. Waterproof, on the other hand, means that water does not affect the materials themselves and that water will not pass through the materials into whatever lies below it. With that in mind, luxury vinyl is waterproof. So what makes it so?
The sum of its parts
On the most basic level, vinyl flooring is constructed from waterproof materials. Vinyl is a petroleum product and is not affected by water. For those products with a solid core, those cores again are composed of materials that are unaffected by water. Whether the core is a wood-plastic composite, a stone-plastic composite, or a PVC, all materials are fully and completely waterproof. The same can be said for the wear layer on top.
The whole is greater than the sum of the parts
When you take these waterproof materials and combine them into a flooring material, you end up with a product that will not warp, bow, swell, fade, stain, or lose its structural integrity from any amount of water that is applied to it. Just dry off the surface and you are as good as new. Also, you end up with floors that do not permit moisture to pass through the material and affect the sub-flooring underneath.

You also end up with a floor that is as beautiful and durable as it is waterproof. It is constructed to imitate a variety of hardwood boards, ceramic and porcelain tile, as well as stone. Whatever style or look that you are trying to achieve, you can do so with LVF. It is also durable. The wear layer on top is designed to prevent scratches and scuffing from normal household use and even if a scratch were to take place, they often simply blend into the vinyl layer.
